Researchers have observed that video games can be as active as playing soccer.
Research from the Auckland University in New Zealand measured the oxygen consumption (which is a measure of the intensity of an activity) of 20 kids playing PlayStation. Ten kids used their PlayStations upgraded with the eye toy function. This is a little camera that sits above or below you TV set, essentially, putting the player into the video game (think about amusement parks where you can make your own video). Those with the eye toy performed significantly more physical activity even though they spent less time playing the games. The most strenuous eye toy game can be just as active as jogging or cycling.
